Recent Project Activity
- NWP is proud of its ongoing collaborative engagement with Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡiʾit (Tobacco Plains Indian Band) under a unique Process and Consent signed in January 2023.
- NWP completed a geotechnical sampling program to evaluate ground conditions below the proposed main settling pond (Fall 2021). Access was constructed, used, and reclaimed, all in the same program. The site is revegetating nicely.
- The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada began prescreening reviews of the Project assessment in 2021. NWP has completed three rounds of Conformity Review with the Agency as of January 2024 and is now in the Technical Review Phase.
- NWP’s environmental assessment with the BC Environmental Assessment Office is currently under the Application Development Phase.
- NWP participated in two in-person open houses (Cranbrook and Sparwood) and one virtual open house led by the EAO and IAAC. NWP also held three in-person open houses in Elkford, Crowsnest Pass and Fernie.
Recent Engagement Activity
- Ongoing presentations to municipal governments, potentially impacted clubs and community groups, Indigenous nations, and other elected officials.
- Site visits and collection of traditional/cultural information by indigenous groups.
- Involvement in Fernie’s Griz Days, Elkford’s Wildcat Days, and other fun local events.
- Late in 2023, NWP awarded five $100 gift cards to respondents to our ‘How are we doing’ online survey
