Michael Gray
Michael Gray is an experienced resource executive with over 30 years’ experience in resource and infrastructure development.
Michael has extensive experience in the planning and construction of greenfield coking coal projects and has substantial expertise in mine permitting, indigenous and community engagement, mine construction and operations, project finance and coal marketing and customer development. During his career, he has been extensively involved in developing new projects with close participation of indigenous groups and community stakeholders.
He was the Chief Executive Officer responsible for the acquisition and successful development and operation of the Middlemount Coal Project and more recently has provided consulting advice within the resource industry including involvement in the development of the Bluff PCI project in Central Queensland and the successful acquisition of the Colton Coal Project.
Michael was previously a Director of the Queensland Resources Council, the Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal Pty Ltd and Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal Pty Ltd.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from the University of Queensland, a Masters of Business Administration from Deakin University, is a graduate of the Australian Company.
Directors’ Course and was the inaugural winner of the Talbot Family Foundation International Company Directors Scholarship.

Dave Baines, M.Sc.
Dave Baines is a passionate environment and engagement practitioner with over 20 years’ experience in major project development spanning industry, consulting, and government.
Dave has extensive experience in the planning, assessment, and permitting of mining projects and has substantial expertise in developing close relationships with Indigenous nations, local communities, industry peers, and stewardship initiatives. Dave’s passions include going beyond business as usual, honest and brave communication, and being a champion for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
He holds a Bachelor of Science (Geography) and a Masters of Science (Geography) from the University of Calgary. His Masters’ research was funded in part by the National Science and Engineering Research Council. His Masters’ thesis won the University of Calgary’s Silver Medallion for academic excellence while being written in a style accessible and understandable to and by the public.
He grew up in Calgary Alberta and learned about life and the world while exploring the eastern slopes of the Rockies. He spent a year living amongst the Netsilik Inuit in Gjoa Haven Nunavut. He now calls the Elk Valley home and is an active community volunteer supporting outdoor recreation.

Karyn Lewis
Karyn Lewis, a proud BC indigenous woman and an experienced regulatory affairs and stakeholder engagement leader with more than 25 years of experience working with resource industries in Canada and internationally. Karyn’s expansive knowledge in various resource management areas include regulatory affairs, stakeholder engagement, investor relations, and project management.
Karyn’s most recent position was Project Manager at the Lupin Mine, obtaining required permitting for the final closure and reclamation plan, as well as the lead for all the closure activities at the mine site in Nunavut with successfully obtaining Minister approval in under two years. Karyn established the first-ever security reduction/evidence-based agreement to be included in a Nunavut water licence, approved by the Nunavut Water Board and signed by the Minister of CIRNAC to ensure security reductions are returned in a streamlined, expedited manner.
